Children desperately need love, care, and attention. But there is something else they need that too few are getting; God's word.
Paul commended Timothy for his faith which “…dwelt first in (his) grandmother Lois and (his) mother Eunice..." (2 Tim. 1:5). Faith was in Timothy because his guardians gave him God's word (see Rom. 10:17; 2 Tim. 3:14-15).
This "pass it on" principle was taught in the Old Testament. What was Israel to do with the Lord's commandments? "...Teach them diligently to your children” (Deut. 6:7). God expected parents then to give His word to their sons and daughters.
Things have not changed. Today parents are to bring their children up in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord'" (Eph. 6:4). Young people need the Bible's teachings. They need the faith it produces. They need God's word; the truth (Lk. 17:17). Parents, give it to your children!
