"Mother" Passages

David McPherson

The New Testament contains several passages with the word "mother" in them. Consider a few:

Mt. 10:37 - "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." While a child should love his mother, his first love must be the Lord. If to please mom, you forsake God, beware!

Eph. 6:2 - "Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)" Some give dad honor and respect and fail to do the same to mom. God forbid! Let not love, reverence, obedience, assistance to mom be lacking in you.

2 Tim. 1:5 - "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also." Timothy was full of faith in great part to the godly example of his mother. Mothers, what kind of example are you setting for your children? If they are won to Christ and serve Him faithfully is it because of or in spite of you?

Where is the verse about praying to "Mother Mary"? Not in these three nor any other "mother" passage.
