Jumping To Conclusions

Michael Pickford

We often criticize folks for jumping to conclusions. However, many in the religious world are unwarranted for performing this criticism upon others. They constantly jump to conclusions about spiritual matters. It is imperative that before we jump to any conclusion about any religious belief, we go God’s word and study thoroughly everything He has to say about it. There are too many people who believe something simply because their parents’ believed it. Or because their “preacher” said it was so. Paul made the mistake of following “the traditions of my fathers” (Gal. 1:14), and it led him to persecute the Lord’s church and to be responsible for the deaths of many of God’s children. We are shown by example that we need to study the Bible for ourselves before we accept any preaching as truth. The Bereans were called “noble-minded” because they “searched the scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Before you accept something as “Gospel,” you’d better make sure that it IS Gospel! Place yourself upon a daily regiment of studying the word of God so that you are not deceived into believing a lie. When it comes to spiritual doctrine, don’t jump to conclusions!
