Just Like Spock

Michael Pickford

Star Trek portrays a character named Spock. He was from a planet where men had no emotions. Love, hate, anger, etc. were said to be “irrational.” What about our planet? Recently, a mother drowned all five of her children in the family bathtub! Are emotions “irrational” to her? This is one case among many. Consider abortion, the senseless killing of unborn children. Do these women having their helpless children slaughtered not have any emotions? Statistics tell us that a few years later these women usually have serious “guilt” problems because of an abortion they received. What about the doctors who perform them? Have they no “feelings” or emotions, or are they just like Spock? God condemned some who were “without natural affection”(Rom. 1:31). The Greek indicates those who had become so hardened that they no longer felt the kind of love which ought to just naturally exist among family members. This is true today with those abusing their family members and children. They’re just like Spock and God condemns them (Rom. 1:31,32).
