Don’t you think it’s foolish and somewhat sickening for a sow, after being cleaned thoroughly, to just jump back into the mud? How about a dog who vomits out some poisonous garbage that had made him sick, only to turn right back around and eat it again. Someone says, “That’s gross, let’s just talk about clean, spiritual things.” Well, this is a spiritual matter! How do you feel about a Christian who becomes unfaithful to the Lord? Do you find this as foolish and sickening as the action of the dog and the sow? Peter did! In 2 Peter 2:20-22, Peter compared these to the one who had “escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” and turned back to a life of sin. This is in reference to anyone who had become a Christian and then turned away from the Lord. Just as the dog returning to his vomit, and the sow racing back to the mud puddle after being cleaned. The Christian who runs back to the pleasure seeking world is foolish and sickening! Are you remaining faithful to the Lord? |
