The above phrase is one that we’ve heard many times in our lifetime. Generally, folks will use it when stressing that they wouldn’t give up something precious to them. “I wouldn’t give up my house; not for the world!” “I wouldn’t give up my family; not for the world!” Isn’t it a shame, however, that many folks give up the one thing that should be the most precious to them - their souls! And what for? You guessed it...the world! Countless people have shunned obeying the Gospel because they didn’t want to sacrifice something prohibited by the Gospel, yet dear to them in this world. Many others who have become children of God have turned their backs on the Lord because of something of this world. This is why John warns Christians, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 Jn. 2:15). James wrote, “Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God” (Jms 4:4). Am I willing to forfeit my soul and spend eternity in hell? Listen, I wouldn’t miss heaven; not for the world! Would you? |
